My non-Catholic wife and I were married in Holy Spirit Catholic Church in San Antonio. But on the following Sunday, to my surprise, none of the church leaders at Mass acknowledged what had just happened. Soon after, the sexual abuse scandal erupted. The church has profoundly failed to abide by these basic principles by allowing the sins of sexual abuse to continue. Aside from my family, two institutions helped form my character: the Catholic Church and the Boy Scouts.
